ITALY: NANI MAKES EIGHTH VENEZIA APPEARANCE

Italian Serie A newcomers Venezia made a big coup when they signed veteran Portuguese international Luis Nani during the winter transfer window and he has made eight appearances till date for the club in the Italian Serie A. The former Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United and Lazio winger has an attacking return of one assist in his eight league matches for Venezia.

Luis Nani made his eighth appearance of the season whenVenezia played hosts to Sampdoria over the weekend. In the end, Sampdoria proved to be too much for Venezia with Francesco Caputo scoring twice in the first half on the way to a 2-0 away win. Luis Nani was unable to stop the defeat as Caputo wrecked havoc on the Veneziadefence to take his tally to nine goals and three assists in 28 Italian Serie A appearances this season. Venezia ended the game with ten men after French striker Thomas Henry was sent off four minutes from time.

Nani played from the start of the game until midway into the second half before he made way for Moroccan midfielder SofianeKirine.

The wealth of experience from Luis Nani could prove vital for Venezia as they try to avoid returning to the Italian Serie B after one season in the Italian top flight. The Portuguese was at Major League Soccer (MLS) club Orlando City until the end of last year when his contract ended.

For Venezia, they are still in a strong position to beat the drop in the Italian Serie A this season despite being in the relegation zone at the moment alongside Genoa and bottom team Salernitana. Venezia are three points off Cagliari who are in the last safe place but they have played one game less than them. As things stand, Venezia have 22 points from 29 games, while Cagliari have 25 points from 30 games.
