Cristiano Ronaldo stunned the footballing world when he returned to Manchester United in the summer after the five-time Ballon D’or winner told the Juventus hierarchy that it was time for him to leave the Italian club. Manchester United re-signed him after beating off competition from Pep Guardiola and Manchester City.

Luis Nani backed the decision made by Ronaldo to return to Manchester United in an exclusive interview with English publication The Athletic. The Orlando City talisman also pointed out that he’s a Manchester United fan during the interview despite leaving the club many years ago. Luis Nani spent eight years with the Red Devils on the back of his transfer from Sporting Lisbon in his native Portugal. He left the club to join Fenerbahce in the Turkish Super League in 2015.

Luis Nani was quick to point out that he was instrumental in the transfer that saw compatriot Bruno Fernandes move to Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon at the start of last year as he buttressed his point on being a Manchester United fan when asked if he still supports the club. Nani and Fernandes had been good friends from their time together at Sporting Lisbon and the former played his part in convincing the latter that Manchester United was the right club for him.

Since his return to Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo has scored nine goals including four Premier League goals. The 36-year-old marked his return to Old Trafford with a brace either side of the half-time interval during the home game against Newcastle United. Ronaldo scored a brace as Manchester United beat the Magpies 4-1 at home in September. He has five goals in the Champions League for the Red Devils this season.
