NANI BENCHED DURING CRUCIAL LEAGUE WIN

Portuguese winger Luis Nani was on the Venezia bench for the entire duration of the big Italian Serie A win over Bologna last weekend. It was a crucial victory for Venezia in their quest to stay in the Italian Serie A beyond the current season.


Venezia made a big transfer coup with the signing of Luis Nani during the January transfer window. He was signed on a free transfer after his exit from Orlando City in the MLS (Major League Soccer).He left Orlando City at the end of his contract at the MLS club. Since signing for Venezia, Luis Nani has not found the back of the net. He has an attacking return of one assist in ten league games for his new team.

Nani started the last league game against Bologna on the bench and ended it on the bench as his team secured a big win in the race to survive relegation from the Italian top flight.

Venezia made a bright start during their home game with Bologna thanks to the goal from Henry Thomas in the fourth minute. Sofian Kiyine then doubled the lead for the hosts on 19 minutes. Bologna started the fightback in first half added time with the goal from Italian star Ricardo Orsolini. Austrian forward Marko Arnautovic equalised for the away team ten minutes after restart before Dutch midfielder Jerdy Schouten gave Bologna the lead for the first time in the game. The Dutchman scored the third Bologna goal midway into the second half.

Hosts Venezia fought back with two goals in the last quarter of the game to take the three points on offer thanks to the goals from Mattia Aramu (penalty) and Dennis Johnsen. Despite the win, Venezia are still in serious danger of demotion to the Italian Serie B ahead of the final two games of the season. They are five points adrift of Salernitana who are third from bottom.
